LeKrista must eliminate Perdita one way or another.

Who Published Scorned?

TCK: I self published to Kindle on October 15.

When did you first decide you wanted to be a writer? 

TCK: I was in sixth grade when I realized that I liked to write.  It started with an in class assignment that I didn’t have enough time to finish.  My teacher let me take it home over the week.  I never actually finished.  It was about horses.  That’s all I really remember. But my writing journey wasn’t over.  I got really into TV that same year (Specifically Young Hercules with Ryan Gosling:)  I started writing my own episode for the show.  Again, I didn’t finish it and I lost pages to it and threw the rest away.  I wish I had kept them, though.  Eventually, my scripts turned into novels.  The first novel I ever finished was about a young alien girl whose home was taken over and she was sent to earth.  I plan to finish that one day.

What’s the inspiration for this series? 

TCK: I was sitting at the dining room table one morning and I wanted to start something new, so I just started writing about what I was doing.  “I was sitting at the dining room table drinking hot chocolate.  I wish it was snowing.”  That’s the first two lines of the first draft.  I have a fear of open windows at night and I was on a vampire kick so I put the two together.  A lot of the emotions and fears that I was struggling with at the time ended up in this book.  Here’s a small spoiler, there’s a point in the book where my MC and her boyfriend break up.  That break up actually did happen to me a few months later.  I kind of saw it coming, I guess.  So, it’s a little emotional for me, but at the same time, it’s all fiction.

On Writing: How do you combat writer’s block? 

TCK: I walk away.  I start something else or I read a book or I just leave it for a few days until something comes to me.  Sometimes I’ll skip the scene I’m working on and jump to the next one.  Come back to the other later.  I don’t usually start a story until I have the beginning, middle, and end in my head.  Doesn’t have to be anything but a sentence or an idea or a word.  Everything else I fill in as I go.  It’s usually the transitions that get me.  The parts in between the action.

Random: Which first date would impress you more and why: Red Roses, Red Wine, Expensive Dinner with him leading the way OR daisies, canned soda and cheap dinner and you get all doors opened for you?

TCK: I’ll have to say the second one.  Men aren’t taught manners anymore.  I appreciate having a door held for me.  I think manners stand out and say more about a person.  An expensive dinner is meant to impress and is gone within minutes.  Manners last, not only in my mind, but he will keep those his whole life.  It benefits us both, I think.
