Blogging, or How Siobhan Went Mad

I belong to lots of groups on writing – romance, erotica, just writing in general… I have groups coming out of my ears, and honestly can’t remember all the places where I have accounts and memberships and whatever else…  It’s all very harrowing for someone who is still fairly new to this business.

The one thing all of them keep pushing, however, is that blogging is the end-all PR outlet.

I really must be doing it wrong.  See, I’m just not that interesting.  Seeing as how I’ve only been a published “professional” since May of this year, I don’t feel like I’m in any situation whatsoever to give others advice.  I’m still learning it all myself.

As far as the best way to promote or pimp or push, or whatever word you want to use when it comes to publicity… I’m very much the type that believes in face-to-face discussion.  CONVENTIONS, PEOPLE.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but conventions seem to be the best way (at least for me) to get books sold.

Example:  My first book – Marked – was released May 21st.  Between May 21st and July 21st, I sold less than 25 copies.  From July 22nd to my next royalty statement on August 10th, I sold well over 100 copies (in addition to that first 25).  And many of those people were eagerly awaiting something else.

I haven’t seen a royalty statement for last month, but She-Wolf has been out almost three weeks now.  I don’t know how well it has done yet, but I’m anxious to see.  Personally, I can’t imagine it has done as well – yet – as Marked, but I’m still anxious to see.

Either way, this story will have to stand on its own for the time being with blog press, Facebook spam and Twitter, because the next reasonable Con date I can make will be June 2012.

Anyway, back to the point.

Blogging.

Yeeaahhhhh…. um, no.  I have a hard time coming up with topics.  I don’t know what to talk about, because rehashing something that everybody else in the world has already talked about isn’t fun. AT ALL.  It’s dull and repetitive, and isn’t fair to people in search of interesting blog information.

It constantly amazes me when people are able to scrabble out three and four guest blog spots in addition to their own daily obligations.  It’s mind boggling to think that some people have so much to say, and it’s always interesting!

Which I’m not.

I suppose that means I’m going to be relegated to back shelves, sporadic posts of mildly interesting topics, and scrounging for cons as often as possible.

Wish me luck, kids.
